About

MamaLita is named in honor of our Founder, Julita Kok. At 60 years old, she has been affectionately referred to as “Mama” throughout her travels across Africa. As people became familiar with her name, they began calling her MamaLita, a title that perfectly encapsulates our essence: the nurturing spirit of a mother caring for her children.

In 2022, when Julita embarked on her journey across the African continent, from Cape Town, South Africa, to Alexandria, Egypt, as a solo traveling woman in her car, she could never have predicted the incredible connections she would forge. These relationships have flourished, leading her to identify various needs in countries like Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and beyond. In response, she initiated programs and established help funds to provide assistance wherever necessary.

Challenges can range from a lack of daycare in villages or talented students who lack the means to continue their education, transportation issues, lack of fresh water, hunger, medical care and  even drought  . When MamaLita encounters such hurdles, she responds with support, education and empowerment. Many individuals join her outreach trips to Africa, eager to contribute to the impactful work MamaLita is doing. The success stories from the past decade are truly inspiring.

Today, MamaLita is no longer just one person; but an organisation devoted to continuing her legacy and nurturing the relationships she has built long after she is gone. While she still pioneers the organisation, MamaLita has grown from one individual to plenty.
